Madonna 60s

The Scholarship Fund was created in 1996 by the Madonna Alumnae Association, then under the leadership of Doretta (Sabucco) Wilson '73 and Pat Parisi '73.

History and Objective

From its inception, the Alumnae Association, in keeping with its goals and mission, decided to grant a scholarship award of at least $500.00 each year to a deserving graduate seeking post-secondary education. The Association felt it was important to acknowledge responsible young women with various strengths and interests who would achieve their goals, and in turn, become role models for future Madonna students.

The first scholarship was awarded in 1997 to Farah Malik, who went on to receive a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto. The first award was possible thanks to a generous substantial donation made by Pat Parisi.

In order to qualify for consideration, interested candidates must submit an application to the Scholarship Committee by the third week of May. The recipient is chosen based on character, leadership, scholarship and service. Candidates are asked to include a record of academic performance and extra-curricular activities including school clubs and groups, and community involvement. In addition, the candidates must submit two letters of reference: one from a teacher/advisor and one from a member of their local community.

The Scholarship Committee, consisting of members of the Madonna Executive and Madonna Staff, reviews all applications and credentials and chooses one recipient each year.

Official recognition and presentation of the award is made at the graduation ceremony in June by a member of the Alumnae Executive.

Funds for the award are raised by the Madonna Alumnae Assocation through a variety of fundraising drives such as alumni reunions, social events and private donations made by alumni members. The fund has been registered with the TCDSB so that donations can be acknowledged and receipted as tax deductible. Contributions of $20.00 or more are eligible for a tax receipt.

The fund must maintain a minimum balance of $500.00 in order to be awarded yearly. The Alumnae Association needs your support in order to maintain the fund and develop future viability and financial strength.
